Christoph Grab, born in 1967, saxophone player, composer

Christoph Grab's musical education started out with seven years of classical saxophone lessons before attending the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, graduating in saxophone, composition and arrangement. Among his teachers and mentors are Andy Scherrer, Sal Nistico, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Lovano and Dave Liebman. In 1992 he won the scholarship for young soloists offered by the Friedel Wald Foundation in Basel in a national contest.

Scores of recordings for radio and television broadcasts have followed since, as well as countless tours and concerts in Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Russia and Lithuania. Among those numerous musicians and bands he has been playing with are well-known names like Ray Anderson, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Irene Schweizer, Joe Beck, Mark Egan, Danny Gottlieb, Harald Haerter and many others.

At present, Grab leads his own jazz band ("The Christoph Grab Quartet"); in October 2004 they have released their album "personal" (UTR 4156) and CRYPTIC BLUES (UTR4166). Other projects of his own: TOYGROUP, SCIENCE FICTION THEATER, MELOS.
Besides various freelance jobs on the Swiss jazz scene he works with groups like the Zurich Jazz Orchestra, NEUROMODULATOR, Nadelöhr, Kurt Weil & Vibes Revisited, Elmar Frei Sextett, ContempArabic Jazz Ensemble, BeeStreet, etc.

Along with his occupation as an active musician, Christoph Grab is a regular professor for saxophone and improvisation at Zurichs Academy of Music.
